Rooftop Garden
This rooftop garden project transforms an unused upper floor of a townhouse in Bangkok into a vibrant outdoor living space. Previously neglected for years, the space is reimagined as a tranquil retreat and social hub for family gatherings and parties. The design focuses on creating a relaxing environment with a pleasant view, combining greenery, comfortable seating, and thoughtful lighting to support both leisure and entertainment. The space blends functionality with aesthetics, turning a forgotten rooftop into a valuable extension of the home.

Site Condition and Criteria
Located on the north of Bangkok, Thailand, the rooftop area is on the 5th floor of the building with 84 sq.m. The challenging constraint is 20 centimeters thick concrete floor that couldn’t resist a lot of load. So, the design criteria are limitation of load bearing, available space , and clients’ program.
Landscape Design
A cascade garden with mixed shrub plant pots were proposed to the garden design. “The picturesque garden” is the concept of painting that like a artist drawing , similarly the planting is the colorful material to paint in the garden as well. This garden particularlly like the outdoor living room for this Townhouse where it helps gather and connect the family together. Also, using light materials will help limit the load of overall construction such as steel and fiberglass.

Garden Plan
The rooftop is divided into functional zones to accommodate both relaxation and activities:
Seating Areas (A & B): Positioned at the corners, these cozy spots are surrounded by lush planters, offering shaded, scenic views perfect for lounging or casual conversations.
Terraced Plantings: Elevated decks with integrated planters create a layered landscape, functioning as living sculptures that add visual interest from various angles.
BBQ Corner: A dedicated area for grilling and gatherings, designed for convenience without disrupting the garden’s calm ambiance.
Material Palette: A mix of wooden decking, gravel, and planter beds defines zones, aiding circulation and enhancing the spatial experience.
